Verified Reviewer | Huntersville, North CarolinaRacist experience at local Starbucks.
I was contacted by someone from Starbucks Customer Service. She was very apologetic and promised that the Manager of that store, as well as the District Manager, was notified of the situation.
She asked if I wanted them to call me directly. I informed her that I did...
Please find below a Facebook post that I posted earlier today, in its entirety:
I dont usually originate posts on FB, but I experienced an incident at Starbucks early this afternoon that has my blood boiling. I was out of coffee this morning so I decided to treat myself to a Starbucks coffee.
I dont usually go to Starbucks because I always choose the sweetest coffee on the menu. Anyway, I went to Starbucks at 9932 Knockando Lane in Huntersville, NC, mouth watering for a white chocolate mocha latte. As I walked in I could see several patrons sitting and waiting for their order. There were two baristas behind the counter seeming to be working feverishly.
One was a white male, the other a white female. I got no greeting, no Welcome to Starbucks, or well be with you shortly. So I go and stand in front of the counter, waiting patiently to be asked for my order. Although they were busy, they both made brief eye contact with me at least once, so I know they were aware of my presence.
Since they seemed to be busy, I patiently waited for about 10 minutes, all the while with no acknowledgement of my presence. After about 10 minutes, a white lady walked in and stood next to me. The male barista immediate said Welcome to Starbucks, welll be with you shortly. After less than a minute the white female barista goes over to her and asks to help her.
I was floored. Those of you who know me know that I dont like being the center of attention, so I decided not to make a scene or make any comments. I just immediately turned and walked out of the store. Ive rarely run into such blatant racism against me personally, so I sat in my car for a minute shaking, trying to compose myself.
I then drove home. Ive tried to shake it off, telling myself its a lot better than being beaten or killed by the police, or any of a dozen or more ways systemic racism is manifested.
If you got to the end of this post, thank you for reading it; I feel a little better for having gotten it off my chest. One thing I do know is that I will never patronize Starbucks again, as much as I love a good white chocolate mocha latte. Have a Blessed day, everyone.
My Facebook friends were all very sympathetic with my experience and vowed to not patronize Starbucks going forward in solidarity.
They also felt that your Corporate office should be made aware of this situation.
I have no idea if this was an isolated incident, or if its standard practice in that store to mistreat patrons of color.
At any rate, I feel I have done my duty by 1) not causing a scene in your store; and 2) making you aware of the treatment I received in your establishment. If by apprising you of this situation I can prevent another person of color from being discriminated against and belittled in a Starbucks store, I can get over the humiliation and go on with my life.
Sincerely,
Shenetta Reid

I'm recovering from a spinal surgery and could not get my free b birthday drink as on 11-16--****.
When I tried to get my free birthday drink the day after my birthday the Starbucks at Westfield Mall in Valley Fair,San Jose,California refused to give me my drink.
My daughter took me there and the barista said you should have come on your birthday.
I'm not happy as I was looking forward to getting my free drink even when I was in pain by having to walk into the mall which was the closest one after my appointment with my doctor.
Second I need to know when I shook the globe to spin for the Starbucks free for life prizes I only got one free spin, and none on Thursday,December the 2nd.
Please help me.
I have been a loyal customer since 2014.
I purchase all year round from Starbucks.
I spend extra money all year round on gift cards, specialty bags of coffee and forget to swipe for points.
I have lost so many points over the years since I didn't know how to use the Starbucks app,and have lost points again because I didn't know how to use the Starbucks app.
My daughter is now helping me.
Thank you Virginia Stasi

1. You state you don't like being the center of attention, yet made this a Facebook because OF COURSE you are hoping it will go viral and you will gets lots of attention, sympathy and free giftcards.
2. I have stood in line with nothing but black employees and either been ignored and not greeted while black customers around me were acknowledged. I just left and went somewhere else. 3.
I don't know if you were really discriminated against or not. If the 2 white employees don't like blacks, they would have wanted to quickly take your order and have you on your way. 4. Who cares if someone is black, white, green polka-dotted when all money green!
5. In conclusion, you can't blame bad service on racism.
You can't blame everything you don't like on discrimination. Mistakes/misunderstandings happen to us all.
Sigh yet another fool playing the race card.
I play the cards I’m dealt. If they perpetuate racism, so be it. There will always be fools denying it.
No you are the fool for claiming racism without proof. I bet everything is a race issue to you.
I bet you call the traffic light racist for being red.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with your skin color, you just come across as ignorant. Have a nice day.
There is no other explanation, unfortunately. And if I was ignorant, I would have made a scene in the store, Instead, I made a very stately retreat.
You, on the other hand, come across as racist yourself. I hope you have a nice day, as well.
Of course for people like you there is no other explanation. Everything is about your race isn't it.
It seems like you are ashamed of your race. You are ignorant. I bet you will call me racist next. I net this is not the first time you have played the race card.
You are racist for thinking because they are white they are racist. I bet you even call the traffic light racist for being red.
SO whenever someone says or does something you do not like you claim racism? One day you will claim racism against the wrong person and get sued.
They are not racist. Just stating the truth.
I believed you at first. Then you accused another person of racism.
Keep doing this and it loses the effect. Soon no one will believe you.
